Who are the ‘Friends’ of Allah

Dheena asked an excellent question in Quranology Discussions about who the friends/awliya of Allah are. As usual we have a variety of answers.  I thought Joseph’s answer was particularly good:

perhaps contextualizing will help give you an understanding as to who is ‘awlia’ allah’ or ‘God’s allies’:

[10:62] Absolutely, GOD’s allies have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.
[10:63] THEY ARE THE ONES WHO BELIEVE AND… LEAD A RIGHTEOUS LIFE

الا ان اولياء الله لا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون
الذين ءامنوا وكانوا يتقون

The keyword in 10:63 is ‘al latheena’ which means ‘the ones’… and this word points to the previous verse which speaks of ‘God’s allies”

Good Book – Modern Muslim Intellectuals and the Quran

Renae asked for a book recommendation in QRAC today. I remembered the book with the title above. It’s a compilation of essays describing approaches to the Quran. One of them is a quranist who contributed a lot to my personal approach, Dr Mohamed Shahrour.

You can have a glimpse of the book here: Modern Muslim Intellectuals and the Quran.
